[VIDEO] Josh Zeledon ’23 Studies the History of France’s Involvement in Slavery and Colonialism

A student at Hamilton College and a participant in the Hamilton in France program, Josh Zeledon ‘23 spent his academic year 2021-22 in France. He recently won one of the Emerson Literary Society Scholarships which he will use to research the history of France’s involvement in slavery and colonialism.

My favorite part of the internship at the Secours Populaire was the two weeks I spent at Rue Montcalm, theirfood pantry. In the morning I stocked shelves in the basement, where they keep meticuloustrack of every single food/toiletry item they have. [...] They provide lunch thereand everyone eats together in the kitchen, which was a really wholesome and uniquely Frenchexperience. In the afternoons they open for business, and I helped hand out a full shoppingcart’s worth of products to everyone who came through."
